Nothing says summer fun and adventure like Day Camp!  At Faith Baptist, our Day Camp is sure to delight all children from 3 to 13 with a whole summer of age-appropriate activities and exciting experiences.

Course Descriptions

INTENSIVE ENGLISH/READING

This class session emphasizes Reading and English. Students trying to make up a failed grade level or who are mandatory summer school cannot miss more than three days of class to receive credit.


INTENSIVE MATHEMATICS

This class session emphasizes Math. Students trying to make up a failed grade level or who are mandatory summer school cannot miss more than three days of class to receive credit.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING & GAME DESIGN

1st – 4th Grade

(Introduction) Students in this class will be taught how to use Apple Swift Playground and Xcode. They will use our iPads to construct basic commands, functions, loops, conditional code, and how to find and fix bugs. Students will then be taught how to apply their code and commands to robot and drone challenges.

5th & 6th Grade

(Beginning/Intermediate Level) Students in this class will be taught how to use Apple Swift Playground and Xcode. They will use our iPads to construct basic commands, functions, loops, conditional code, and how to find and fix bugs. Students will then be taught how to apply their code and commands to robot and drone challenges.


CONVERSATIONAL SPANISH

2nd – 6th Grade

Along with common greetings, the students will learn to count from 1 – 100+; to recite the days of the week, the months of the year, and seasons; to tell time; and to say many vocabulary words.


COOKING WITH STYLE

4th – 6th Grade

This fun class will be for students who want to learn how to be a hit in the kitchen. Students will don their toques, roll up their sleeves, and learn the cooking basics of soups, lunches, dinners, and desserts. Along the way, they will be given basic instruction in table etiquette and presentation.


CREATIVE WRITING

3rd – 6th Grade

This class will be an enormous benefit for any student who is interested in improving his writing skills and having a good time learning how to write both prose and poetry. Each student will be taken step-by-step through the writing process and will learn how to make his writing come to life.


CONVERSATIONAL SPANISH

2nd – 6th Grade

DRAMA

1st – 6th Grade

Students will develop skills in performance, including characterization, blocking, and interaction with other characters. The students’ abilities will then be put to the test as they perform a play during the last week of summer school.


GET ARTSY

1st – 4th Grade

In our Get Artsy class, our instructor will show your child how to use their creativity and talent to make their own amazing works of art and eventually their own original paintings. If your child loves to create and to make things for other people, this is the class for them. Seeing their face, beaming as they hold up their latest work of art, is a true highlight of this class. Unleashing your child’s talent and creativity is easy.


INTRAMURAL BASKETBALL

3rd – 6th Grade

Students will learn the basic skills of shooting, rebounding, ball handling, and all of the other fundamentals of the game. Students will learn how to practice better, improve their skills, and participate in scrimmage basketball games. If you are serious about becoming a better basketball player, this class is for you.


INTRO TO MUSIC PERFORMANCE

1st – 4th Grade

This class will present a first-hand exposure to the world of music. The students will learn the basics of piano playing and keyboard theory, basic vocal techniques, music history overview, a taste in Asian Music (angklung), explore composition and a recital as the culmination of the class. Open to grades 1-4, especially those who have not played the piano. Class size is limited.


INTRODUCTION TO MUSICAL THEATRE

5th & 6th Grade

An introduction to music theater performance, knowledge of basic stage play language and acting and vocal performance. Culminating activity will be a presentation of excerpts from the musical “Annie Junior” from the Broadway play


MOVIE MAKING

4th – 6th Grade

Students will learn and put into action every step of the movie making process. They will develop the concept, write the script and storyboard, create costumes and props, become actors, help film, edit, and will premiere the final product with the summer school drama in late July!


PAINT LAB

5th & 6th Grade

Get ready for the most COLORFUL and SPARKLING summer class ever. No experience needed. Paint Lab at Faith Baptist will be a hands-on art class where 5th-8th grade students work with our school’s art staff and learn the fundamentals of painting, gaining a basic knowledge of the materials artists use. Your child will learn how to create colors and how to use different brushes, palette paper, palette knives. You will be amazed how fun and easy learning to paint can be. Painting sessions are fun art, not fine art. Enjoy step-by-step instruction with our experienced and enthusiastic art staff. It’s a colorful, casual classroom atmosphere where each student will go home with a one-of-a-kind painting they created.


READING ACADEMY

3rd & 4th Grade

Our summer reading academy is a one-to-one software driven program that evaluates each child’s reading ability and then generates a phonetically based quizzing program to develop reading skills in targeted weak areas. Students in this program have improved their reading comprehension scores by an average of 1½ grade levels.


WONDERWORKS: FUN WITH APPLIED SCIENCE

1st – 4th Grade

This class is all about discovering how fun science can be. Students who take this class will be taught how to apply science to investigations, our vision and hearing and to fun activities and to projects they create. While working in teams to solve a “Who Done It” scenario where students work together as a CSI team to figure out the suspect based on hair residue, discovered fingerprints, and other planted clues. They will also build bridges and airplanes and then use their creations in competitions with their classmates. This class is all about discovering how fun applied science can be.

5th & 6th Grade

This class is all about discovering how fun science can be. Topics covered include: basic operations with variables, exponents, and radicals; the arithmetic of polynomial and rational expression; solving linear, fractional, and quadratic equations; graphing and writing equations for lines; solving systems of linear equations; and the quadratic formula.

Students may take either semester, but not both without administrative approval. Students cannot miss more than three days of class if trying to receive credit. (A full year of Algebra 1 is not available except for current Faith Baptist students who meet certain requirements.)

7th & 8th Grade

This course reviews the grammatical concepts of capitalization, punctuation, parts of speech, and usage while continuing to develop the students writing skills in response to literature the literature. The literature module of the class with focus on several classic stories and poems from both American and English literature.

A full year of English is available for current Faith Baptist students only. Students cannot miss more than three days of class if trying to receive credit.
9th – 12th Grade

Semester 1 or 2

This course reviews the grammatical concepts of capitalization, punctuation, parts of speech, usage, and diction while continuing to develop the students writing skills in both the areas of argumentation and response to literature. The literature module of the class with focus on World Literature (9th/10th grades), American Literature (11th grade), and English Literature (12th grade).

A full year of English is available for current Faith Baptist students only. Students cannot miss more than three days of class if trying to receive credit.


GEOMETRY

8th – 12th Grade

Semester 1 or 2

This course introduces geometric concepts including writing and solving proofs, working with polygons, and finding area, surface area, and volume.

Students may take either semester, but not both without administrative approval. Students cannot miss more than three days of class if trying to receive credit. (A full year of Geometry is not available except for current Faith Baptist students who meet certain requirements.)


INTRO TO ADV ENGLISH

7th – 12th Grade

This course is specifically designed for non-Faith Baptist students to gain a deeper understanding of grammar, mechanics, and basic writing skills.


PRE-ALGEBRA

7th – 12th Grade

Semester 1 or 2

This course introduces basic algebraic concepts including using variables, writing and solving equations, and graphing equations.

Students cannot miss more than three days of class if trying to receive credit. (Current Faith Baptist students entering 7th grade who need to make up 6th-grade math must enroll in this class, not 6th-grade math. No student may take a full year of Pre-Algebra, regardless of the reason. The semesters are aligned to meet the needs of students enrolled in Jr. High English.)


U.S. HISTORY

8th & 11th Grade

Semester 1

This course provides a one-year survey of American history from the Colonial Period and the American Revolution to the present day, with an emphasis on the twentieth century. Using the textbook and primary documents and current events, students learn about the various political, social, religious, and economic developments that have shaped and continue to shape the United States.

Students who would like a study hall during the school year may take history. Students cannot miss more than three days of class if trying to receive credit. No other classes are offered to “get ahead.”

Semester 2
