Welcome to the K5 program!

You will be gratified to know that our kindergarten has been evaluated as one of the best, if not the best, in the country. Numerous schools, including a university, have requested our curriculum.

Kindergarten is extremely important, as are all beginnings. Several years ago, a five-year-study was begun by Paul McKee, a professor of education at Colorado State University, and Joseph E. Brunzunski, a Denver school official to determine the effect of a reading program in kindergarten. The conclusions were as follows:

“Results of the federally financed project show that children who received reading instruction in kindergarten learned to read better and with great comprehension than those who didn’t.

  1. Average youngsters – not just the exceptionally bright – can profit from reading instruction in kindergarten.
  2. Gains made in kindergarten can be wiped out if not followed by stepped-up instructions in later grades.
  3. Teaching children to read earlier favorably influenced their achievement in other subjects.
  4. Most American public schools do not teach kindergarten children to read because of inert tradition or fear of harmful effects of pushing children too fast – yet the study found evidence of no harmful effects.”

Because of Faith Baptist Schools’ extensive phonics program, the majority of the children are capable of reading second-grade textbooks by the end of the year.

In the area of arithmetic, our kindergarten children can add combinations through 10 and can quickly answer 48 problems in three minutes. The children also do double-digit and column addition. Subtraction combinations are usually learned through 10 minus 6. Spelling is also taught, and the children are able to spell approximately 40 words a week by the end of the year.

Please understand that classes tend to fill very quickly and applications are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. We are looking forward to having your child with us next year.
